It all started with a bad debut in a oneday match against West Indies in 1992 World Cup. I was small studying in class 10th. I thought this lean, fair looking boy needs more practice to get going... then there are a gap of about 4 years, suddenly I was amazed to see that same name making headlines. Yes, my friend he is Sourav Ganguly!
I believe ten thousands of such blogs and websites write bad and good things about this man! But what crime this man has done? I am not a cricket statistician and a good read in the game of cricket. Only thing I knew that this man has brought a revolution in the Indian Cricket team. The team is now called "Team India". The man was unceremoniously removed from the throne which he ruled for 5 years. The team which he had built was handpicked and tested by him. He dictated the terms in and off the field.
My friends say he did lot of Dadagiri in the team. I say he did right! That dadagiri was required to break the so called 'Bombay lobby' and the 'regional biasness' in the game. He brought in players from all over the country.
Those who think we "Bengalis" are unpatriotic as been called by lot of so called 'Cricket gyaanis' in television and other media, please let me know how many Bengali players were brought into the team by Sourav and he supported them to stay in the team even if they did not perform.
It is good that new and young cricketers are getting chances to show their metal. It is a good sign for Indian Cricket, but I still firmly believe that Dada still has a couple of years of cricket left in him.
